Default Keyboard layout lost after upgrade to -current
Hello people,it's been a while and after a lot of testing and experimenting with OpenBSD i decided to "move" to -currnet.

Today i upgraded from -stable to -current following this post:

http://www.daemonforums.org/private....owpm&pmid=7209

Everything works fine so far,but after upgrading i don't have the second layout.(I have the us and the Greek layout.)

Is there a setting i must do after upgrading to have again the Second Layout?


Edit: The sysmerge command was changed accordingly to the OpenBSD 5 -cuurrent that i wanted to move so it was like:

I've never used any of the kbd configuration tools with X11 -- as a mono-linguist from the U.S., I've always used the defaults.

Your available configuration options are laid out in /usr/X11R6/share/X11/xkb. If it were me, I would use setxkbmap(1) and determine my proper settings before mucking about in an xorg.conf file.

And you would determine that *only* by using the setxkbmap man page?Cause so far i can't find anything relative with the things i asked.


If not a shame,sure it's a pity that there is NO clear guidance from OpenBSD people on how to add layouts.In every section of the FAQ they go so deep and add every detail that i can't stop wondering why not include something like that...even for a -current it's important to at least have some basic things...

Just upgrade and there you go...You don't even have the ability to write on your language.

Internationalization (i18n) has tradtionally been a weak point with OpenBSD for a very long time. Most of the regulars here (including me...) are English-centric, so we haven't had to deal with configuration.
  • Asking for assistance on the official misc@ may be in order. However, do consider summarizing what homework has been done in the past to solve the problem when posting. This will at least show that you have put effort into finding a solution yourself. Posts then show no prior study are frequently ignored.
  • If you do post to misc@, do not ask that material be added to the FAQ. While I understand where you are coming from, the developers & technical writers see such requests as a feature request. Feature requests are not warmly received. Ever.
  • If you do chase this matter down to completion, consider writing a FAQ addendum yourself. Submit this to misc@ as a diff(1) format. Changes submitted with the work needed to implement them have a much higher chance of being accepted & integrated.
While someone here might pipe up with a suggestion, experience points that most here are English-centric or tolerate the English language default.

I don't think that my experience and OpenBSD knowledge so far is enough to to write an addendum even if i finally manage to make it work.Yet this is a later thought.So i 'll concentrate to finding a solution for now.

Fixed.Just in case someone deals with the same problem that's what i did. :
According to:

Then created a file as shown here: http://www.x.org/releases/X11R7.6/do...html#id2548546

and added these lines:

I don't believe OpenBSD's Xenocara has xorg.conf.d yet, so that part is unnecessary AFAIK.

But i disagree; it is necessary since it's the only (known to me as i speak for myself) way so far to add a keyboard layout.I you have a better suggestion that works i would be glad to see it written here and try it.

In -current, the wscons infrastructure for X added auto configuration, you can still do manual xorg.conf configuration but you need to add Option "AutoAddDevices" "False" to the "ServerFlags" section.

They're trying to make it easier to run without an xorg.conf, but you still can.

I haven't tried that and it might work,but since my very first steps with OpenBSD everyone said that i should always read and follow the FAQ for a stable system.And even if your suggestion works i still dont get why mine is "unnecessary".Experimenting is always good and through it you gain a lot of experience but characterizing what worked for me unnecessary i think it's at least unfair.

Xorg is migrating the configuration to files inside xorg.conf.d, I simply meant you could use the traditional xorg.conf configuration method.

If you prefer to use the other method, that's fine, but I was simply stating you can still use a single xorg.conf config file, which IMHO is easier to maintain.

Well,i don't think that the contents of the new file have great differences compared to the old xorg .conf file.At least with everything that has to do with the layouts.Which is easier and more comfortable lays under someone's opinion.On the other hand it's a change that sooner or later will work only that way if i got it right and please correct me if i'm wrong.

No, I don't believe they'll be phasing out xorg.conf anytime soon.

Even if upstream eventually does, I'm not convinced OpenBSD's Xenocara fork will follow suit.
