ZFS filenames encoding misrepresentation with non-ASCII characters

Hello!
It seems like it is a relatively common problem but I couldn't manage to find an explanation or fix online.

I copied data from UFS to ZFS and at least one folder containing characters out of the ASCII table, such as "ö", is now set to "??".

Is there a way to force Unicode on ZFS? What can I do to keep filename encoding integrity?

Here's how I fixed my issue

Add LC_ALL=en_US.UTF-8 to the :setenv in /etc/loging.conf. When using an
X terminal progrm, pick a unicode font, e.g.
-misc-fixed-medium-r-normal--14-130-75-75-c-70-iso10646-1

I don't think that the system console has unicode support, you should
probably use a ISO 8859-15 font, e.g. iso15-8x16.fnt, see kbdmap(1).
