AMD64 and i386 are compatible, you can run 32-bit operating systems on your system.
The problem might be related to a different style of partitioning, 64-bit Windows might use GPT partitioning instead of the classic MBR-style kind. Perhaps someone else here can help you with that. |

Has the disk been configured as a "dynamic disk"? (http://support.microsoft.com/kb/308424)
What error do you get with GParted? Are you using GPT partitioning? (unlikely) Ofcourse, if you have a spare disk you can just copy the contents of D: into it, then delete & (re)create a smaller D: partition. |

AFAIK, AMD64/x64 uses the same MBR based partitioning that i386/x86 uses, GPT is only used in EFI-based systems (a.k.a: Intel Macs), normal windoze PC's use MBR based partitioning.

Thank you ephemera that seems to be some solution for the problem.

Hey phoenix, you are confusing me a little. It would be nice if you could explain something about GPT and its advantages.
