I use samba to share directories between FreeBSD and other windows host on the network But I'm not able to figure out how to access shared directories from my Macbook.

We used samba mostly to keep it consistent. Yes, you should be able to map it. I don't have a Mac handy, but there was some way to do it--create an alias maybe? You add it to the keychain, and then, next time, they should be able to click on the alias and connect.
That's not a guarantee, I set this up a long time ago, and I fear I've forgotten. |

I use nfs for mac to bsd also. If you consider nfs in the future, double-check that the numeric uids are the same.

oh yeah - UIDs can be messy ... i had to go out of my way to make my bsd box the same as the mac
