I pressed Alt+ Printscreen key but it doesn't print. Please help.

Printer? What do you mean? I just want to capture the printscreen but it doesnot work.

That is yet another option, but it is "may" not "must".
Note that scrot is a CLI-based capture tool. There are others, such as those included with Xenocara, xdpr(1) and xwd(1). I recommended The Gimp as it can take screenshots of individual windows, defined sections, or the entire screen, and then bsdnewbie (and other newbies) may edit the image and save it in the format they desire.
