There are many ways to capture an image of an X window or an entire X desktop.

One of the easiest is The Gimp (# pkg_add gimp), a "Photoshop"-like image manipulation tool, and use "File...Acquire...Screenshot."

Please read one or two books on operating Unix or Linux. www.openbsd.org/books.html has a nice list.

for get screenshot from your screen in OpenBSD with Gnome.

Note that scrot is a CLI-based capture tool. There are others, such as those included with Xenocara, xdpr(1) and xwd(1).

I recommended The Gimp as it can take screenshots of individual windows, defined sections, or the entire screen, and then bsdnewbie (and other newbies) may edit the image and save it in the format they desire.

I myself prefer "import" over Gimp, scrot, Gnome printscreen ultility... since it is light-weight, highly configurable and ...does the job :P

For dumping the selected sections, just enter "import" in the terminal.

With the help of fluxbox hot keys (~/fluxbox/keys), this is how I dump the entire screen or a single active window:

Print :ExecCommand import -window root ~/fs_$(date +%d-%m)_$(date +%T).png

Mod1 Print :ExecCommand import -screen ~/wd_$(date +%d-%m)_$(date +%T).png

The file name will be set automatically based on the time I dump the screen/window.

All you have to do is either press Prtsc or Alt Prtsc.

Simple yet effective, isnt it? Of course it is a matter of personal preference anyways
