I'm done -- I'm giving up. CUPS, made to work with Brother's cupswrapper for LPD, did not work. Jobs were accepted, and never printed. This last test included deploying Brother's PPD and cupswrapper filter.
I shall continue to send PDFs to my phone for printing on this printer.
