It also seems to be useful to wander around the ftp site directories and read READMEs. e.g. http://ftp.netbsd.org/pub/pkgsrc/pac...etBSD/SEE_ALSO

or ftp://mirror.planetunix.net/pub/NetBSD/README

Looks like there are a couple pkgsrc mailing lists you can follow to know what's going on as far as bulk builds and package updates: http://mail-index.netbsd.org/

I wish I'd discovered this when I was using NetBSD. I was a bit lost re binary packages.

I tried to post a URL and it denied me again. At any rate, search on google for "Joyent+Package+Repositories+and+Using+pkgsrc" . Their 'pk' framework is a stellar example of using pkgsrc in an enterprise environment.
