Hi !

It keeps saying "failed to create drawable" each time I start firefox when on fvwm.I wonder why it's the case with firefox (only) .. do I miss any related lib or something ?

Please edit your entry and change the title. As written, by itself, the title of this thread is meaningless. These are read by people in lists of threads, and this particular title is extraordinarily unhelpful.

You have two questions. A) Why does Firefox produce this message, and B) is there something not installed?

The best way to find out the answer to question "A" is to scan the source code. You sir, have the tools to do this. Yourself. Because you have installed the ports tree. The following example commands will indicate where in the Firefox source code "drawable" is used. If it isn't found, then a dependency issued your warning message, and you will need to expand your search.

$ cd /usr/ports/www/mozilla-firefox
$ env NO_DEPENDS=Yes make patch
$ find /usr/ports/pobj/mozilla-firefox -type f -exec grep drawable {} /dev/null \;

Disclaimer: This was from memory; do not blindly type these commands into your computer. Understand what they do and modify accordingly. If you need to know more, please see the appropriate man pages: cd(1), env(1), make(1), ports(7), bsd.port.mk(5), find(1), grep(1).

The answer to question "B" should be self-evident to the ordinarily prudent user of packages and ports. Ask yourself, "What is a dependency, and where does pkg_add get dependency information?"

daemonfowl, in each & every one of your posts, you have a goal. That goal, is to provide sufficient information for your readers to understand:

• What operating system is being used. No where in your post is this information provided.
• Which version of the operating system is being used. No where in your post is this information being provided.
• What are the applications running at the time when the error occurs? Only applications coming from packages? Packages made available through the project, or ones you have compiled yourself? Is there anything else which is running which others might not recognize of have any knowledge of consequences? Any applications you have/are porting yourself which are not provided by the OpenBSD project?
• What is the operating environment in which this error occurs? No dmesg(8) output is provided, so no information is provided as to platform or other hardware considerations.
• Has any effort been made at all looking for a root cause? Internet searches? Source code of the system or applications involved?

What readers of your message are going to conclude is that you aren't putting forth much effort to understanding the fundamental problem. They are going to conclude that you want them to do all of the work. Most are going to read this asking "Why should I bother getting involved with this issue?"

I wasn't running anything particular .. whenever I start firefox I get that message .. even on version check :

2. What did Googling tell you? HINT: You apparently have not bothered to follow Ocicat's link.
3. What did scanning the source code tell you? HINT: if you spend a few minutes doing research on Google, you should be able to uncover the answer and if so you may not need this step. I spent 2 minutes and 13 seconds on Google, and I found the answer.
