Why cannot the alias be found ?

Code:

$ cat /etc/profile | grep -i pkg_list 
alias pkg_list='lynx -dump $PKG_PATH/index.txt >$HOME/pkglist.txt'

$ pkg_list
ksh: pkg_list: not found
