Why cannot mpd start ?

Code:

#/etc/rc.d/mpd start 
mpd(failed)
and there is nothing in mpd.log

however,
#/usr/local/sbin/mpd /etc/mpd.conf                                                                                                         

successful !

Why doesnot `mpd start ` work ?
