Perfection is an illusion. Nothing can be perfect for everything, everywhere, at any time.

It's perfect for *you*, *right now*. It might not be 6 months or 5 years from now. Just as it might not be for me.

Second choice would be XP, probably.
Too bad my 2 windows machines are still both Vista atm. ![]() Why is 7 so low? Was it added later? |

This thread started back in November 2008 -- a year ago. At the time, Win7 betas were just beginning to appear, but only through subscriptions & attendence to specific conferences. The selective availability would mean that most did not have it -- hence, no direct experience to make comments.
Threads have a limited self-life because forum members typically only respond to the latest threads, & because threads tend to be specific to what is/was happening at the time the threads were created. |

For XP, let's get more specific. Which version? I prefer to use XP-64 on some of the newer machines which do 64 bit processing. Its pretty quick on something built to handle Vista. For any version of M$ whatsoever, I choose 2000 advanced server. Its stable, runs on machines with more then one CPU and in general just won't crash that often. MacAfee makes a nice anti-virus for file servers that may still work.
Of course, any user friendly version of UNIX like PC-BSD or friendly version of Linux is far superior. |

All major virusscanner have had incidents like that, it's not unique to McAfee.
