FreeBSD 32bit vs 64bit on machine with 2GB memory
The only reason I can see for using FreeBSD amd64 (8.2-stable) on a machine with only 2GB of memory would be ZFS. In that case you don't need any kernel memory fiddling.
Because we won't be using ZFS, I think I better would use FreeBSD i386. Any other ideas/opinions?

Little performance gain on amd64, and You will not have 3D hardware acceleration on amd64 with wine
 I would say if there is no specific reason why You would want to stick to i386, go amd64.

Is is a server in a data center, so X and Wine is out of the question

I have two completely identical machines with 2GB RAM, one running i386, the other amd64. Never noticed a single difference anywhere.
In theory, i386 should be slightly faster. But amd64 will give you more flexibility towards the future.

If you will ever be adding RAM to the system, then go with 64-bit from the start.
 If you will never, ever, ever be adding RAM, then you can go with 32-bit. But that's not very future-proof thinking. If you have the option, go with 64-bit.
