You probably have some messed up terminal settings, what is the TERM environment variable set to? Try setting it to cons25.

I removed TERM variable from my .bash_profile to pick up the setting from ttys automatically.
So now all editor works fine but tmux doesn't works from pseudoterminal. Quote:
