hi

Both KDE and Gnome "4.4.3" versions had a bug. Download the "4.4.4" image which was made availiable late Saturday.
The bug was in the /etc/rc.local script. For KDE and Gnome, the image would have too many files in it to boot, if it were all a single CD9660 filesystem in the ISO image. So on these images, /usr/local is kept in a separate ISO within the ISO, which gets mounted during /etc/rc.local execution. I'd made a global change to rc.local in 4.4.3, and that accidentaly eliminated the mount.

All you need to do is log on as user or root.
XDM is the login manager for all ISOs. If you don't want to use XDM, boot in console mode and use startx instead, after logging in as user or root.
