Anybody, what program(s) are available in the generic Unix world (BSD, Solaris, et al.) to cover the replacement of M$ Money or KMyMoney? Even a relatively simple checkbook program would suffice at present.

I'm currently using KMyMoney on an official Dell Ubuntu box (bad purchase, ask me). I am very ready to give up the Dell and concentrate on BSD and my main Solaris box. Any suggestions welcomed. Thanks in advance.

You could take a look at the finance category (http://www.freshports.org/finance) of the FreeBSD ports collection, there are only few ports there (If you exclude the perl modules).

Personally, I use gnucash for small business bookeeping. It is reasonable, but does require more work than it would with MYOB/Quickbooks. That said, neither of those products guarantee a trouble free life.

The developers actually claim that M$ Money etc users are their primary audience, so you might find it very good. Personally, I didn't think that there was a audience for M$ Money et. al., but it looks like I'm wrong.

KMyMoney had some import issues. Also the reports were hanging on my data
(there's data in my db from 1999 up to now).

GnuCash did fine but lacks allot of finance digging features and also reports are poor.

You could try Grisbi, that looks ok, but I didn't find the time check it out.

MoneyDance is the best Money-clone out there, it's also available for Lnx and BSD, and has most of the Money features. Only drawback : it costs about 40$.

In the end I kept on using Money under Wine. :D

kmymoney is available in the FreeBSD ports tree. As is gnucash, and homebank. In fact, there's an entire category devoted to financial software: /usr/ports/finance
