hi
i just installed KDE on Solaris express.
Everythign seemed to go well until i changed the splash screen
to a different animated one with the bouncing icons.
So each time i try to loginto a Kde enviroment it just freezes,
and all i see is white. So i have to hit the backspace shift to
get out and login to Gnome.
Can someone tell me where the Kde defaults are so that i may
set them back to factory defualts as root from a terminal.
Also screen savers did not work at all in KDE for me.
Thank You

the brute force method to get rid of all the configuration: rm -rf .kde*
but wait a while before you do that, maybe someone can suggest something more intelligent.

Configuration for ksplash is (logicaly) located in:
.kde/share/config/ksplashrc
Solaris probably have agp/dri/drm problems with your hardware, reason why such fancy graphics stuff fail to work correctly.

hi
Actually Compiz and all glx screen savers work on Gnome
very well unless i installed an unstable version of KDE.
.kde/share/config/ksplashrc
bash-3.2$ cat .kde/share/config/ksplashrc
[KSplash]
Theme=Standard
So i guesss the question is what shall i change the theme to unless i can do Theme=Default?
i did change the Theme= Default and It looked like it was attempting to change to Default
when i was logging into KDE ,but it just hung there again.

i know you are thinking it is my hardware but i had no problem whatsoever with FreeBSD or Solaris 10.
i should also say i am using Solaris express and i have found a few bugs in it with Compiz once.
Solaris express was buggy on me once before wih Compiz and i did not want Open Solaris this time around.
So how can it be my hardware if it worked fine under Solaris 10 and FreeBSD
At any rate i may just remove it ll tonight and start over
i read other had problems with login into Kde at times and it brought them back to a prompt login.
Thanks for trying to help me.

I said probably, and as you already said I was wrong.
I hope it is KDE 4 fault. With KDE 3 on Solaris there "should not" be any problems. KDE 4 is buggy ...
Well, if I am wrong again, I'm very sorry, I can not help you, because I never tried (Open)Solaris so anything software/hardware related directly to (Open)Solaris is out of my interest. But I have some small experience with HP-UX :) ....

hi
No i never actually said you were wrong about anything
its just the wrong circumstance at the wrong time that had nothing to
do with your feelings on the matter :) so be happy
And yes you were not wrong you were right
that was the correct way to change the splash screen it back to normal but
other problems had arose by that time and it was too late.
But no actually the hardware seems fine on all versions of Solaris and BSD.
including Gnome of Solaris Express.
All of us are always learning and will never know everything all the time.
We may roll out of the bed one day a little smarter then the day before.
depending on the coffee lol.
No actually i am not using Open Solaris i am Using Solairs express
No i did not have problems with AGP Graphics on Open Solaris Nor BSD nor Solaris 10.
So that narrows it down to Solaris Express
its a little buggy at times. for example if i run compiz
my mouse may disapear and i may have to right click to see it again.
especially if you added a new theme perhaps an older theme that may have broke it who knows.
i know compiz is a toy to play with but it should work correctly regardless.
Compiz works fine on Open Solaris but i prefer Sun solaris 10 or Solaris express.
i know they dont have compiz on Solaris 10 although i do hear it is a
little tedius to install if one really wants it bad enough on Solaris 10.
Also this is the first time i installed KDE on any Solaris
so i can not speak for any other Solarises but i do know i was unable to
run Screensavers on KDE,But had no problem in Gnome running all the
GLX Screensavers.
Anyways i just reinstalled Solaris express and i am in the middle of installing KDE again to give it another shot
i like trial and error making mistakes asking for help trying to get it fixed and if not then reinstall.

i just realized i can get xscreensaver-demo working fine
Well i have KDE working better for now even with compiz running.
i have trail focus off and my mouse i not vanishing as it was earlier
xscreensaver-demo works perfectly.
