I did that too, but I'm not going to check every member's profile to see if they uploaded a picture (And most of them didn't)...

Thanks you two - that was a fun halloween. :) Our dog actually found the kitten in some bushes outside our bank. Apparently she wanted some company.

Darn, I pictured you looking meaner. (My pics are available at bsdnexus somewhere, at least some old ones.)

Only up sometimes

Top one I'm the one with the beard getting bitten, bottom one, I'm the one in the sweater on the right. First one is from the 80's, the other is about 2 years old.

In combination with your avatar I almost thought you were the left one (he certainly looks smarter) :D.

It was a training exercise. The handler was and is one of the best dog trainers I've ever met, Dom Donovan. You see I'm wearing those protective pants and in there, we've also stuffed a lot of extra padding for protection.

We were letting the dog have leg bites, so that he wouldn't always look for an arm bite even if the arm wasn't easily accessible for him.

The latest picture of me - taken about this time last summer while I was in Afghanistan. In this particular picture, you see me pausing for a photo op during a mortar shoot. I have a 60mm HE (high explosive) round in my hand. Behind me is the 120mm pit, and we were preparing for a "coordinated shoot" with our mortars and the Afghan's D30 artillery.

This last weekend I finally got out of the Army National Guard - after 7 years of service.

Darn, I pictured you looking meaner.

I'm smiling in that photo so maybe that accounts for the nice look.

It's actually a crop of a picture of me and a friend who moved to Oregon and came back to visit after a year.

I'll always accept the help of a good Zinfandel!

Scottro and I are within a couple years of each other in age, and you are right: neither of us is as old as we like to claim. Still, most computer fora, including this one, are populated by people in their 20s (give or take, granting many exceptions) who are students or early in their careers. That does lead to a difference in perspective.

Good for him!

In some ways you have to compare age with where computers were at the time. When I started programming in 1975, we were still on punched cards and serial terminals were in their infancy -- only upper division EECS majors got to use them (I was neither). Going back much farther does not really add to one's knowledge of computer history and how things developed. Compare that with the young'uns who know only GUIs and the OSS/Windows "struggle."

I know this is OT...

This pic is a few years old...taken with a now 9 year old Sony Mavica...a new digital camera is on my shopping list (I don't even have a floppy drive anymore and the batteries barely work). Imagine me now with shoulder-length hair and a short beard (no moustache). And, yes, that is a SpongeBob Squarepants shirt.
