Looking to drop a wifi nic (pci) into the openBSD, 4.3, and pf firewall machine and enable it as an Access Point (AP). hostap is new territory for me.

Recommendations appreciated as to which wifi nic's are good, better, best -- in host-ap mode -- for radio performance, AP firmware availability, openBSD driver quality, and generally hassle free.

WEP/WPA not an issue as link will be fortified by "ssh -w tunnel", or ipsec.

Any other pointers, advise also appreciated.

Thanks,
/S

I use the Linksys WMP54G v4.1 card (OpenBSD ral driver). You'll want to change the stock antenna, though, and replace it with Linksys' hi-gain antenna (SMA 7dBi) to extend your AP's effective range.

Have fun.
